Setting up over here for now whilst I decide how I want to shelve my books online.
Hopeless - Colleen Hoover Wow. Wow. Wow.

Colleen Hoover, I am SO glad I discovered you. This is my second book and once again I am blown away. I don't even know whether to laugh or cry now that I've finished. Sky and Holder were beautiful together, one of my favourite book couples ever in fact.

This book is not a light read, it's deeply emotional as broken lives intertwine and stories come together but it is a perfectly stunning book. A must-read. Seriously! Go and buy it instantly.

I don't want to give anything away, I think this book has to be read with fresh eyes and I envy people who get to read it for the first time now. It is completely unforgettable, incredible, amazing, love-at-first-read, need I go on? It's just perfect. As long as Colleen Hoover keeps writing, I know I'll be happy!
The Rosie Project (Hardback) - Graeme Simsion I received this book through Goodreads First Reads.

I loved this! Such a brilliant, clever and extremely funny book. Rosie and Don were a perfect combination of wit, embarrassing moments and warmth that left me rooting for them both through the whole book yet always left me wondering how it was going to end.

There were many amazing lines in this book and so many laugh-out-loud moments, I want to read it all over again. Definitely recommend it if you're looking for something that's a bit different but that hits all the right spots.
Over My Head - Marie Lamba Loved this book :) Very sweet, very touching. Loved all the drama, the teenage problems, the heartache, the love. I was really transported along with Sang, and I felt everything she goes through. I rooted for her the whole way through and the ending made me tear up a bit!

I read it so quick, Lamba's writing is a delight and flows so well. She combines comedy and pain effortlessly, I would love to read another of her books.

In fact, I'm all smiley now, it's left me with a really warm feeling, and that's always a good sign!
Queen's Gambit - Elizabeth Fremantle I received this book through Goodreads First Reads and have loved every page of it! Sometimes I find historical fiction too dry but this was anything but. Elizabeth Fremantle has perfectly captured the danger, intrigue and game-playing of Henry VIII's court and I felt totally drawn into it all. I loved delving into all the characters' lives, especially 'extras' like Dot and Huicke; they made everything come to life and opened up this world that I hadn't ever really explored in detail before.

Even though I knew most of the facts, Fremantle added flesh to these bones that made the book a complete page-turner and had me willing history had got it wrong. It was passionate, thrilling and extremely well-written and I would definitely recommend it!

[Would like to thank Penguin for supplying me with the ARC]
The Fault in Our Stars - John Green I knew this book would be important before I read it, but I didn't know just how much. I don't think I can really review it well because (as cliché as this sounds) I can't really give my thoughts justice with words.

What I want to say though is I'm grateful for the lack of bullshit. Cancer is...horrendous. John Green got most of this, you can tell he has experience. The book did have its faults but I kind of didn't care just because of the wonderful characters of Augustus and Hazel and the way they reacted to each other. Their 'forever' love story was just perfect and epic. They made me laugh so much, I know some people found them pretentious at times but I was just so in love with them. They were amazing to read.
One, Two, Buckle My Shoe (Hercule Poirot, #22) - Agatha Christie Clever as always, but not one of her best. I think the Barnes side of it all was a bit too much, I'm not sure. But still, Agatha Christie is brilliant as always, in intelligence and wit. As always (with me anyway) I couldn't guess who it was for the right reasons, but I never really try to anyway. That is the beauty of these books, you're taken along for the ride, nearly as clueless as everyone else.
The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden (The Coincidence, #1) - Jessica Sorensen Wow. Wow. Wow. What a cliffhanger, I was not prepared for that! This book has made me smile and tear up so many times, I feel emotionally drained. I don't want to say too much, because you have to read it for yourself, but it is so full of surprises and heart-wrenching moments. I feel almost lost, I need to know what happens...
Easy - Tammara Webber This book is amazing! It was so much more than I expected, in so many ways. It saddens me that if it wasn't for Goodreads I never would have found this...it's probably my favourite book in a long time.

It's beautiful, funny and sexy and I really couldn't put it down. The characters were so loveable and so connected, the whole story just flowed and twisted in such surprising ways. A truly wonderful book.
Thursdays in the Park - Hilary Boyd Quite enjoyed this. Had a lot more surprises in it than I thought it would, but still very sweet, especially Ellie! The ending felt almost rushed even though you knew it was always going to happen, but other than that, a nice easy read.
The Practice Date - A Novelette - Victorine E. Lieske Quite a cute short story - would be nice to see something similar in a longer version, but it made me smile :)
Uglies (Uglies, #1) - Scott Westerfeld

Loved this book, cannot wait to read the rest in the series! I first read it to understand what it was all about so I could recommend it to my students but became hooked and i loved that I was kept guessing until the last page.

The subject is pretty simple, but so many secrets and twists are revealed throughout the book that by the end the whole premise has become far more complex. It's definitely a world that I want to explore more, and the ending brilliantly set up the second book.
The School Run - Very enjoyable, easy to read and actually very gripping. There were parts in there that I didn't expect but the story was all the better for them. At first, it was hard to keep track of all the character's names, however, their individual traits soon made it easy to identify them and keep track of them.

I have always enjoyed novels which intertwine people's lives, I find them pretty fascinating and this was a good version of such a story. I think I loved Harriet the most, she seemed so warm and vulnerable, yet also extremely strong when she realised what to do. Also found a lot of common ground with Kitty as I too work in a high school, the dialogue in her scenes made me giggle at the familiarity (apart from the end!)

All in all, a recommended read, especially as I only paid 90p for it on Kindle. I don't think it's gone up that much in price anyway!
Yours Truly - Kirsty Greenwood I first discovered this book through Novelicious - the founding editor of the site is Kirsty Greenwood, the author of this book. At the moment this is still only available as an ebook but I think it's being released as a paperback later this year as Kirsty has signed on an official book deal.

I will admit that, at first, I was slightly wary of buying this. I wanted to support Kirsty as a long-time reader of Novelicious but I really didn't know what to expect. The site produces really great reviews, book news and articles but this would be something else entirely.

However, I'm so glad I decided to buy it. It completely exceeded what I was expecting in every way - it was so warm and very, very funny. I laughed out loud so many times whilst reading it and that's exactly what I had wanted from it. The love story was also very well written with enough twists to keep the whole story going. Overall, it was an entertaining, feel-good read that left me with a smile on my face. There were a few editing issues but I bought the ebook very early on so these have probably been corrected by now, or I'm sure they will be for the paperback edition. Having said that, I didn't even find them off-putting or distracting as I would normally.

Kirsty definitely has a true talent for writing and her debut novel was a pleasure to read. I hope we'll see many more fantastic books from her in the future!
The Casual Vacancy - J.K. Rowling This was a brilliant story, by an amazing storyteller. It's a mix of dark humour and gritty reality but it kept me hooked through to the end. I know some people have complained there's no plot as such but I couldn't disagree more! The characters made the story move forwards, they told their part of their lives in Pagford and you watched as the town morphed and transitioned into something new each chapter.

I can't really say anymore because I think you have to read it to really understand the book. The summary is just a setting, a beginner story to put you into the centre of Pagford life and it all spirals off from there. Rowling seems to have this special talent of identifying human emotions and actions that we all thought we kept hidden and displays them for everyone to see in 'The Casual Vacancy' - some truly horrible (domestic abuse, neglect) and some we may all have been guilty of at some point (ignorance, snobbish attitudes). It's a very powerful book and I'm still assessing my emotions after it came to an end. A definite recommended read.
Slammed (Slammed, #1) - Colleen Hoover This books was so beautiful. I don't think I have ever cried and laughed together so much at a book before. The characters were perfect, very very touching. The only thing that's ensuring I'm not upset about the book ending is that I have number 2 to read :)

In actual fact, I don't think I can really put into words how much this book moved me! Lake was such a strong character, I could relate to things that were going on in her life (don't worry, not the part your thinking!) and she handled events with such courage, it rubbed off on me. I loved the slam poetry - I've never been keen on poetry but this was totally different. I loved the snippets of songs from The Avett Brothers, I think one of the most perfect lines I have ever read has to be "Always remember there is nothing worth sharing like the love that let us share our name" - lovely!

I think you can only really understand how good this book is until you read it - I feel quite overwhelmed by it!
You Had Me At Hello - Mhairi McFarlane I LOVED this book. Simple. Mhairi McFarlane has such a witty, fresh and clever way with words, I didn't want this book to end. In fact, I feel quite bereft now this book is over, and feel as though I've lost something - it's very rare that I feel that way!

Firstly, thank you for setting it in Manchester!! I love the city and always thankful that I only live 20 minutes outside it. I love all the details the author adds that are very familiar to me but any other reader would also understand. I've also got so bored of the typical rom-com settings of London, New York, Devon etc, so overdone now. This detail was genius! There's also no (thank God) storyline about how a character made a boo-boo at work and had to escape to the coast and luckily for her she found the man of her dreams behind the bar of the local pub that he owns, and they start off hating each other but secretly love each other (blah blah blah).

Secondly, Rachel and Ben were the perfect characters. Nothing clichéd. Rachel has no annoying quirks that we're meant to find "adorable", she doesn't constantly do the thing you're screaming at her not to do (in fact, the author makes several references to such scenes and Rachel outwardly states she isn't going to do that), she doesn't lose things or fall flat on her face when she first meets Ben. It's wonderfully real.

Finally, I really liked the supporting characters, especially Rachel's friends - ah Mindy! - and laughed so many times at so many different parts of the book. The author's descriptions are often hilarious, or just seem to pin down exactly how you remember/imagine them. A must-read!
